Causal Inference Lecture Notes: Classical Approaches to Statistical Analysis of Randomized Experiments
نویسنده
چکیده
Building upon the statistical framework of causal inference, we consider classical approaches to statistical analysis of randomized experiments. The use of randomized experiments in scientific inquiry goes back at least to the 19th century, but formal statistical methods to analyze these experiments were developed in early 20th century by J. Neyman and R. Fisher. The methods they developed were different but shared one important feature; both were design-based and nonparametric. That is, Neyman and Fisher provided ways to make causal inferences from randomized experiments by exploiting their design and avoiding arbitrary assumptions. We examine their proposed methods in detail.

Causal Inference Using Potential Outcomes: Design, Modeling, Decisions
Causal effects are defined as comparisons of potential outcomes under different treatments on a common set of units. Observed values of the potential outcomes are revealed by the assignment mechanism—a probabilistic model for the treatment each unit receives as a function of covariates and potential outcomes. Fisher made tremendous contributions to causal inference through his work on the desig...
متن کاملClassical and causal inference approaches to statistical mediation analysis
Resumen Background: Although there is a broad consensus on the use of statistical procedures for mediation analysis in psychological research, the interpretation of the effect of mediation is highly controversial because of the potential violation of the assumptions required in application, most of which are ignored in practice. Method: This paper summarises two currently independent procedures...

Introduction: Many studies detected factors contributing to the students’ tendency to lecture notes. This study aimed at evaluating the factors affecting students tendency to lecture notes in Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences. Methods: In this descriptive study, 179 students from medicine, nursing & midwifery, health, and Paramedicine schools were selected through stratified random...
متن کاملHierarchical Models for Causal Effects 1
Hierarchical models play three important roles in modeling causal effects: (i) accounting for data collection, such as in stratified and split-plot experimental designs; (ii) adjusting for unmeasured covariates, such as in panel studies; and (iii) capturing treatment effect variation, such as in subgroup analyses. Across all three areas, hierarchical models, especially Bayesian hierarchical mod...
